Dance Baby

OPI Dance Baby with Essie Shine of the Times on top.

Friday, June 22, 2012

Wow... 2 months since my last post! And for good reason... I've been using only OPI Soak-Off Gel Axxium lately, and I haven't been doing nail art. Boring, right?

This week I thought a nice break from OPI would be good... so I quickly polished on 2 coats of Sally Hansen Coral Reef. Sigh... still no nail art. Maybe next time :)

To catch up on my daily blogging, head over to Aunie Sauce. You'll find me there on the regular. ♥

Cajun Shrimp Try #2

Last time I used OPI Gel Axxium Soak-off Cajun Shrimp, I wasn't 100% pleased.
Though of course I didn't say anything about it at the time.
It didn't dry shiny, and I think that's because of all the acrylic paint I used for the nail art.

 This time, however, they're shiny.
They're smooth.
They're wonderful!
I can't wait to see how long they last.

*As a side note, I have had a couple comments asking about purchasing Axxium. Axxium is NOT available for purchase at regular beauty supply stores without a license. I purchased most of my supplies from Cosmoprof (with my friend who DOES have a license). The rest of the items I purchased on eBay.
Minimum Axxium requirements are OPI Bond Aid, soak-off gel base, a soak-off color, either the soak-off clear overlay or the UV top-sealer and a UV light. Mine is the IBD Jet 5000. I've wanted to try OPI Gelcolor, but I'm not sure if my lamp would cure it, since Gelcolor requires LED as well as UV. I hope that helps!

Minnie Mouse Polka Dots

Remember how I mentioned last week that I was going to dabble in some gel nails?
This is my first try at OPI Soak-Off Gel Axxium... and I love it!
I used Cajun Shrimp and dotted on some polka dots with white acrylic paint.
I haven't done full-on polka dot nails in a long time... but I really like them!

Do you use Gel Axxium?
I'm a huge fan so far!
I've had these on for a week and there is NO CHIPPING!
Love ♥

Pink and Gray Leopard

I have been so absent from this blog lately.
I recently had my nails done
and had them done with OPI Soak-Off Gel Axxium,
so that explains my multiple-week absence.

That stuff is amazing.
So amazing, in fact, that I have invested in some myself.
You can plan on seeing some Axxium looks soon!

This one is a simple gray leopard look.
I used 2 coats of China Glaze Recycle,
and added the dots/splotches with acrylic craft paint.

Unfortunately, it's chipping already!
Back to Axxium for me ♥

Femme Leopard

This last week,
I needed (not wanted, needed) to do my nails
in a way that was professional, yet feminine.

I opted for a light pink funky French tip.
I freehanded the French tip with 2 coats of China Glaze Empowerment
and 1 coat of OPI Princesses Rule!
I cleaned up my lines with acetone and a nail brush.

A couple days later, I just wasn't loving the simple pink.
When do I ever just leave anything be?
I added some bright leopard with a dotting tool
and acrylic craft paint... you know... just to jazz it up a bit.

Which do you like better... the classy or jazzy?

P.S> I know the bouncy ball doesn't match...
but it's a "blessing ball" that I've been carrying with me all week...
Let's cross our fingers that it works!

Purple Zebra

It took me almost 30 minutes to convince my boyfriend that these were
NOT nail stickers.

He's such a stinker.
He kept telling me, "But you said stickers were CHEATING!"

I kept insisting that I didn't cheat... I totally painted them myself.
As you can obviously tell.

I used 2 coats of China Glaze Grape Juice on all nails but the
pinky, on which I used 2 coats of Sally Hansen Rockstar Pink.
I freehanded the zebra print with black acrylic paint and a dotting tool.

I felt compelled to show 3 photos in different light today... these nails
seem to change color, don't they?
I love them!

Mardi Gras Beads

Mardi Gras is tomorrow... yay!
I can't say I typically celebrate the holiday,
but this year I thought it'd be fun to do some little Mardi Gras inspired beads.

I kept this look REALLY simple.
I used 2 coats of China Glaze Four Leaf Clover on all nails,
except the accent nail which has 2 coats of China Glaze Medallion.
I added the dots, to represent beads (no... I didn't have to flash anyone!)
with acrylic craft paint and a dotting tool.

I hope you have an awesome Mardi Gras!

In the words of Michelle Tanner, "WHOA, BABY!"
China Glaze Rose Among Thorns is a vibrant, awesome red.
Actually, I really don't like it this much in person...
but it sure does photograph well.

I painted on two coats of Rose Among Thorns,
added hearts with a dotting tool and acrylic craft paint,
and painted 2 coats of Gettin' Miss Piggy With It on the pinky.

Of course, this was my post-Valentine's Day look,
but I still love it!

I'm doing an AWESOME giveaway on Aunie Sauce...
be sure to enter!

Chocolate Valentine

I tend to be a bit un-traditional when it comes to Valentine's Day.
Lately, coral and brown have been calling my name, so I decided on a chocolate themed mani.

This is 2 coats of OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys on each nail, and 2 coats of OPI Glow Up Already on the pinky nail. For the heart and dots, I used dotting and striping tools and acrylic craft paint.

Happy Valentine's Day! (TOMORROW)

Not Purple Panic

These nails did NOT go as planned.
That being said...

I began with 2 coats of China Glaze Purple Panic.
Yep... that's Purple Panic alright. It's no longer very purple, very neon, or very anything...
It has faded into a version of it's pink sister, Pink Voltage.
I think it's time to toss that little baby.
I did the daisy with acrylic craft paint and a dotting tool.
I hadn't planned on making flowers, in fact, they started out as hearts...
and those dots? Not sure where they came from either.

But once again...

Opal Nails

This week I wanted to try something new. I've been wearing an opal ring that I've had for ages lately... and I thought it would be really cool to make opal-esque nails. The bonus? They're super simple! I'm sure there are other ways to do this... but I went with the easy one.
  1. Apply 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  2. Apply 2 coats of China Glaze For Audrey (I will use a more sky-blue color next time, like China Glaze Carribbean Blue)
  3. Apply 1-2 coats (depending on the opal-ness) of Essie Shine of the Times
  4. Finish with 1 coat of CND Super Shiney top coat
After about four days of having this one, I decided to mix it up a bit and added Essie Matte About You over the top. It really creates a different effect and makes them look a little more like a true opal.

I'd also like to announce my Konad Kit winner! The lucky winner of the Konad Kit (and plate M78)...

Midnight Echo!

(Random.org selected #145 out of 149)

... But she didn't tell me if she's international or within the US/Canada... so if she is international I will do another re-draw! ...

Pink Rose

I think I'm seriously feeling Valentine's day creep up on me minute by minute. I know, I KNOW, it's still only January... but I just am loving pinks/reds/hearts/flowers... all the mushy-lovey stuff.

For this mani, I followed these steps:
  1. Apply 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  2. Apply 2 coats of OPI That's Hot! Pink
  3. On the accent nail, using a dotting tool and acrylic black craft paint, make 3 big swoops and fill them in. It creates a ruffle shape on the nail.
  4. Using a striper brush and white acrylic craft paint, begin painting a rose.
    • Start with small, curved lines. Begin making the lines larger as they curve around each other.
  5. Add a couple dots with a dotting tool on the outside of the rose.
  6. Finish with 2 coats of CND Super Shiney top coat.
I'm still working on my roses... they're just not there yet... but I like them! Today I'm wearing a bright pink/black/green scarf and they match perfectly! Yayy for matchy matchy!

Dotty Dot Dot.

There is beauty in simplicity.

This manicure was SO INCREDIBLY EASY.
I painted on two coats of OPI DS Reflection, added dots in increasing sizes with my dotting tool, and swiped on 2 coats of top coat.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

For the dots, all I did was use one dotting tool.
When I needed them to be bigger, I just swirled the tool a little bit on my nail to make the dot bigger.
Is it as easy said as done?
You betcha!

Enjoy the little, simple things in life this week.
They are beautiful.
You are beautiful.

PS>> I'm having a GIVEAWAY over at Aunie Sauce. It's open until January 24th and is for a beautiful leather bracelet.
Oh... and do this (look below) for me, will you?

Valentine's Plaid.

I am such a hypocrite. I haven't posted in over 2 weeks, and my nails have been NAKED almost the whole time. GASP!!

That being said, I'm back. Woot woot. Today I'm spicing it up, a little early perhaps, with a simple plaid Valentine's heart design.

Basically, all I need to tell you is that I "heart" it. A lot. Me + gray = love right now.

Here are the steps:
  1. Apply 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat.
  2. Apply 2 coats of China Glaze Recycle.
  3. Make 2 horizontal and 2 vertical intersecting lines with white acrylic craft paint and a striping brush. I used the brush from one of my Stripe Rite (you can buy them at Sally's) bottles.
  4. Add a heart with pink acrylic craft paint and a dotting tool.
  5. Finish with 1 coat of CND Super Shiney top coat.
Do you heart it? Think you may try it?? Too early for V-day? Oh well... I was in the mood for gray and pink :)
