Sharpie Nail Art

For some reason, creating nail art with a Sharpie had never crossed my mind... until I was on vacation last week and didn't have any acrylic craft paint to play with. I had remembered to bring some OPI DS Classic polish and my Looks Wet top coat, but I didn't want to bother with any acrylic paint or tools to create nail art. Instead, I grabbed a Sharpie and doodled a little design on my nail.

I think I LOVE IT. Of course I made sure to go over the design with a final top coat... but it hasn't budged and I pretty much am a huge fan. Love love love.

P.S. I just love reading your comments... but I can't reply back if you don't "show your email" on your Blogger profile. All you need to do is go to your Blogger profile. Click "Edit." Check the box that says "show my email address," and you're good to go!  Then I will be able to respond to your comments. For a more detailed tutorial, check out this link from For the Love of Blogs. Success!!!

Turkey Nails

Do you remember when you were a little kid and you used to trace your hand to make a turkey? Well, since I am so incredibly creative, I translated that fun pasttime to my nails!

To be quite honest, I HATED them so much that I didn't even bother with cleanup. The brown at the tip of the nail made my nails look as though I had only really tiny nails. It just looked really, really bad so I took it off right away. Though it could have been a good idea... my selected color palette just didn't work for this look.

Here are the steps I followed for my turkey nails, in case you can think of a way to make them look amazing:
  1. Apply 1 coat of CND Stickey top coat.
  2. Begin by polishing on one coat of China Glaze Solar Power to each nail except the thumbs.
  3. Next, in a ruffian pattern, layer on (freehand) OPI Hot & Spicy, OPI Don't Mess With OPI, and OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys.
  4. I added a layer of China Glaze Fairy Dust so the messy lines wouldn't be as obvious.
  5. For the thumbs, I used 3 coats of OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys.
  6. I freehanded the eyes, beak and gobbler (what is that thing, anyway?) with a dotting tool and acrylic paint.
  7. I finished the whole look with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat.
So... do you think you can make my nails look better than I did? I'm sorry I didn't worry about the cleanup. They really did come right off because they were just that horrible. Though I have to admit, that turkey was pretty dang cute!

Happy early Thanksgiving!

It's A... Bubbly Girl...

I have always thought the color It's A Girl, by OPI, was very pretty. Unfortunately, every time I use it, the dang thing bubbles on me like crazy. Now, this time I'll admit-- I was in a hurry while applying my polish. But still... it's quite annoying!

For this natural (almost) pink glitter look, here are the steps I followed:
  1. Apply 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  2. Apply 3 coats of OPI It's A Girl
  3. Apply 1-2 coats of Wet 'N' Wild Party of Five Glitters on the accent nail
  4. Finish with 1-2 coats of CND Super Shiney top coat
I'm sure this polish wouldn't have bubbled if I had taken my time and not have had to polish on 3 coats. However, I'm a huge fan of low-maintenance polishes, and It's A Girl just isn't that polish for me. Oh well... that just means I'll have to do my nails again sooner than later... and that's good for you, right?

Simply Aunie.

So, do you want to see something totally not related to nails, but instead all-about-Annelise?

See, this blog is about something specific, nails, and has a clear vision and mission. However, if you want the randomness that is all things me, please head on over to my new blog, Simply Aunie. It's brand spankin' new,  oh-so-awkward, and shows all the simple little pleasures of yours truly.

Scarf-Inspired Part 2

If you saw my post yesterday, I hinted that I would be publishing some crazy nails today. Well, if these aren't pretty crazy... then you're just awesome like me because you would rock these anywhere and anytime. They are crazy leopard mania nails!

Though they look rather intricate, they're totally not. When I picked up this scarf from Burlington Coat Factory last week, I knew I wanted to do some nails to match its leopard pattern. Coincidentally, I had the exact colors to match. Here are the steps I followed for this mani:
  1. Apply 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat.
  2. Add 2 coats of butter LONDON All Hail The Queen.
  3. Using your polish brush, place random dots on each nail with China Glaze In Awe of Amber.
  4. Surround the amber dots with mini parenthesis using a dotting tool and black acrylic paint.
  5. Add random stars (they're supposed to be flowers) using a dotting tool and orange and pink acrylic paint.
  6. Finish with 2 coats of CND Super Shiney top coat.
So, what do you think? Are they too crazy or just right up your alley? I'm in heaven. They're crazy, fun, and surely do get lots of attention!

Scarf-Inspired Part 1

My beautiful sister was in town this weekend, and when she arrived, we were both wearing the coolest scarves. They were animal print, of course, and I just couldn't resist doing some scarf-inspired nail art.

Her scarf had a gray and turquoise zebra pattern, and she picked the gray color she wanted herself. She chose OPI Lucerne-tainly look marvelous, after she decided that she loved the color when she saw it in this post. I added freehand zebra stripes to her accent nail with turquoise acrylic paint and topped her nails with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat.

It ended up being quite lovely and still professional for her job. My look, which will post tomorrow, is not quite as professional. Hehe. Be prepared for craziness tomorrow.

Don't forget to enter my giveaway for an awesome necklace from Shabby Apple!!

I Tried to Copycat the Copy Cat

I'm not sure if you've heard of the two blogs I'm going to introduce today... but they're pretty cool. The first is I'm Feeling Nail-Venturous and she's just awesome. She does really fun nail art and always posts great swatches. Recently, she had a guest post from Copy That, Copy Cat. She does incredible nail art, too!

Let me just tell you that BOTH of those girls are so much better at nail art than I am. Like, incredibly better. They are nail artists. They make me green with envy. When I saw their two blogs I seriously considered giving up No Naked Nails. I thought, "Wow. My photography sucks. My nail art sucks. I pretty much suck." But hey... if you're going to suck at something-- at least make it something you love, right?! So N3 is here to stay... though I'm still not quite as cool as those girls.

ANYWAY-- Today I attempted the guest post rose nail art done by Copy That, Copy Cat. I think I failed.

Next time I need to make a bigger space for the roses. As you can see on her post, she had multiple roses. I barely had enough room for one. I really love this look on the Copy Cat, but I just don't like it on me. I will just have to try it again another time, I guess!

The polishes I used were:
  • 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  • 2 coats of China Glaze Shower Together
  • 1 coat of OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise
  • Dark purple and white acrylic paint for the roses
  • 1 coat of CND Super Shiney top coat
Make sure to check out those blogs... but don't forget about lil ol' me, OK?
