With Halloween right around the corner, I thought I would go ahead and embrace my vampire costume and showcase some vampy nails. They're not traditional Halloween by any means, but boy they sure are fun, witchy, and perfect for any dark-lady costume.

I have never tried a chevron French tip before, nor have I ever attempted a two-color Funky French. Usually I always leave the top half of my nail naked and just paint the tip... but this is really fun!

I did not want to use Scotch tape or any kind of adhesive sticker to create the chevron. That's just too much work for me-- with the extra top coat, measuring the tip just perfectly... blah, blah, blah. I just decided to freehand it.

Since I wasn't smart enough to take step-by-step photos while I did my mani, I recreated the step-by-step instructions the old fashioned way, with pens and paper. Very high-tech. I know.

Here are the steps for my vampy chevron nails:

  1. Apply a real base coat (not drawn above). I used CND Stickey base coat.
  2. Apply your 1 or 2 coats of your base color. I chose OPI Color So Hot It Berns.
  3. Using acrylic paint, freehand a black line from the outer edge of your nail to the middle, making a diagonal line.
  4. Freehand a second diagonal line so it intersects the first.
  5. Still using acrylic paint, fill in the tip of your nail inside the black lines.
  6. Go over the acrylic paint with a sparkly fun polish of a similar hue to your acrylic. I chose China Glaze Lubu Heels.
  7. Using a dotting tool and acrylic paint, dot on 3 small dots along the edge of the chevron tip.
  8. Apply topcoat (I used CND Super Shiney top coat) and VOILA! You're finished!
All I have to say about this mani is Va-Va-Vamp!! RWARRR!

Haute Halloween

I love Halloween colors. Orange, green, purple, black; you just can't go wrong! Today I constructed a mani to show off each one.

For this mani I used:
  • 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  • 2 coats each on alternating nails of China Glaze Orange Marmalade, China Glaze Tree Hugger and China Glaze Spontaneous
  • Acrylic paint and a striper brush for the freehand french tip stripes
  • Black acrylic paint, a striper brush, and Stripe Rite silver glitter to freehand the spider web
  • 2 coats of CND Super Shiney top coat
I'm not a fan of super creepy, scary or ugly Halloween nails. I like to keep mine simple and fun! I hope you enjoyed them :)

BBB Inspired

I've been doing a lot of blogging lately. Phew... it's kind of overwhelming! And unfortunately, it's not even on this blog!

You've visited my other blog, Bye Bye Beehive, right? I'm having a blast with it so far, and I've officially made it one whole week without teasing or frying my hair. Whoopee! And I just can't seem to get enough of the fun color theme of that blog and my Twitter account. It's gray, yellow and white. I know a lovely girl who used this color combo for her wedding and it was just spectacular. Needless to say, my nails were inspired by my BBB blog this week.

For this look I used:
  • 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  • 3 coats of OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous
  • 2 dotting tools and acrylic craft paint for the abstract nail art
  • 2 coats of CND Super Shiney top coat
I was a tad frustrated with Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous because it took 3 full coats before it was opaque. I think it would be magnificent over a black or dark gray, though!

And if you haven't already... go check out my other blog!!

Plaid Part Two

I just couldn't get enough of my plaid nails from last week. Boy, were those fun. I wanted s'more!!!

For these gray and plaid pretties, I used:
  • 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  • 3 coats of China Glaze Recycle
  • A striper brush and lime green, white, turquoise and emerald green acrylic paint for the plaid stripes
  • 2 coats of CND Super Shiney top coat
To tell you the truth, Recycle gave me a really hard time. It took 3 full coats for it to be opaque. However, I don't mind too much because the coats went on very thin and I had no bubbling afterward. Overall, I'm so totally diggin' the plaid look. I want more, more, MORE... Part Two, Part Three, and maybe Four!

Andy the Amazing

Yoo hoo! Did you notice my new layout and header? The layout is very basic, but simple is usually better, right?

I'm not sure if you remember my All Hail Andy post, but in that post I thank my great and wonderful future brother-in-law for my amazing birthday present which included some fabulous butter LONDON nail polish.

Well, Andy has outdone himself again. He created my wonderful new banner. Fun, right? I especially love the little N3 on the polish brush. So cute.

Andy, you rock. Did I mention that he also reads my blog? He is awesome. I can't wait to welcome you to our family. Thank you again!!!

Bye Bye Beehive.

I'm posting today to shamelessly plug my new blog-o-venture Bye Bye Beehive.

This blog will document a 365 day project where I, a self-proclaimed Big Hair Queen, will ban all teasing, highlighting, dyeing and blow-dryer frying. My journey kicks off October 11, 2011.

If you're suddenly thinking, "Well, whoop-dee-doo for you... how lame and terribly unfulfilling your life must be," then this blog just might not be something that you would want to save to your Favorites. However, if, by some small chance, you are interested in seeing my kick-butt hair days, my big-time hair fails, or even just want a new site to peruse, then by all means check out my new blog. You can find it at

Yes, it's a shallow new challenge for me to undertake. But I'm stoked about it. I hope you'll check it out. :)

Don't Get Mad, GET PLAID!

Happy Monday No Naked Nailers! Are you suffering from a Case of the Mondays this morning? Don't fret... I've got the answer!

Don't get mad! GET PLAID!!!

You just can't be in a bad mood with a rockin' plaid print on your nails. Well, I can't... that's for sure. For this plaid ensemble, I used:
  • 1 coat of CND Stickey base coat
  • 2 coats of butter LONDON Marrow
  • A striper brush, acrylic craft paint, and Stripe Rite silver glitter for the plaid stripes (And yes, they're freehand... I'm totally a perfectionist, that's why I didn't do this design on EACH nail. It would have taken forever!!)
  • 1 coat of Looks Wet top coat
  • 1 coat of CND Super Shiney top coat
I am definitely diggin' butter LONDON Marrow. Wow. They have "butter" in their name for a reason. This stuff goes on so smoothly and it is the richest plum color. The color is a bit off in the photo... but is so beautiful in person. There is also a very subtle shimmer in it, though I couldn't capture it in the photo.

On a side note... which is better... the photo above? Or the photo below? Let me know!! I'm debating doing a switch-up on my photo style.

Now, if you've still got a Case of the Mondays... go paint some plaid nail art on your own nails! You can thank me later :)
