Shreddin' Pinks

After a failed attempt of a manicure earlier this week, I wanted to try something different. I decided to pull a design from Chloe's Nails out of my bag of tricks and give it a shot. It's the same as the shredded mani I did before, but with the tape just flipped around so you paint the tips of your nails to create a modified french tip.

I began by cutting 10 pieces of Scotch Tape into a zig-zag design. Then, I gave each nail a coat of CND Stickey. I layered on 2 coats of OPI Princesses Rule! and oh my... that bottle of polish was thick. I think I need a new one because I've had it for years. I also applied one coat of Seche Vite to each nail to prep them for taping. As soon as the SV was dry, I began by taping and polishing 2 nails at a time. I would tape them off (so that you had to paint the zig-zags on the tip of your nail) and polish right over the tape. For 8 of my fingers I used OPI Ate Berries In The Canaries. On the ring fingers, I decided to spice it up a bit and instead used OPI DS Extravagance. When I was finished with all 10 fingers, I applied 2 coats of CND Super Shiney Top Coat and off I went.

I'm not sure I like the accent nail with a different color. Sure, it's fun... but this mani is already kind of out-there so I'm just not sure if it needed it. Oh well. It was a super-fun mani to create. Thanks to Chloe's Nails for the inspiration!

  4. Cute! I'll have to try more of the tape manis. I always have problems not getting a good enough seal when I put it on my nail, so the polish kind of seeps through :(

  6. Thanks ladies! And Erika- polish thinner... lol didn't even think about it. You're smart!

MaD- If you use SV, it will help to dry it quickly so you can really push the tape down. Also, in a tip I learned from Chloe's Nails, you want to press the tape down on your skin first so it doesn't stick so much to your nails. You probably already know that already :)

  8. I like it! I think the colors are close enough that you don't have to worry about the accent nail being too over the top. And thanks for cluing me in to another great blog!

  11. How do you put tape on your nails without peeling off the polish?! I can't imagine taking off the tape and the nail polish NOT going along with it.

  12. malkatz - I recommend using a quick dry top coat. if it dries for long enough, it won't peel up when you pull up the tape. i actually did have a problem with it this time on my left hand, but usually it's not an issue :)
