Pink Sparkle Sponge Gradient

HAPPY NEW YEAR! What's a better way to bring in 2011 than with some  sparkly, glitzy, bright nails? Well, I can name more than a few... but for now, just go with it!

Here's my pink sponged gradient:

Now, this is my first attempt at a sponged gradient. It's OK... not as much of a fading gradient as I would have liked. I used China Glaze's Pink Voltage for the base, sponged Essie's Big Spender to the tip (you can't see it because it's covered with glitter), and sponged over that with Sally Hansen's Rockstar Pink, slowly trying to make it fade as I sponged toward the cuticle. I finished with 2 coats of Seche Vite topcoat.

I had seen so many nail bloggers featuring the sponged gradient look and I just had to try it, so I used my best nail resource, YouTube, and learned from "sponged gradient" nail tutorial videos. YouTube is how I learn everything about nails. I wanted to learn nail stripes... so I YouTubed it. I really wanted to learn marbling. YouTube... Alas, my professional nail tutor :)

Here's another look at my gradient nails:

Happy 2011 :)

  2. NOOO WAYYYY! *drops jaw* I had this same color combo on about a week ago, before I even caught wind of your blog!!!! Wow. I didn't sponge though, I did a sort-of yin/yang swirl free-hand with Rockstar at the bottom of the nail & Pink Voltage at the tip. I probably should have done a base of Pink Voltage & then the Rockstar swirled over, but I was mostly just dubbing around. Came out very funky... I think yours looks much better! It's definitely a bright & funky color combo, right? =) Great minds think alike!

  3. Speechless....I have Essie Big Spender and I am totally inspired now to create nails like yours. I'm a newbie to sponging so I hope they turn out as well as yours did!
